UK Car Repair: astra rear brake sticking, vauxhall astra, disk brakes

Question
ive got astra disk brakes all around my calpar sticking ive bleed the brakes but its still doing the same thing i spin the disk it free but it catch in one spot as it spining i dont no if its the calper or the disk  can u help out

Answer
Hi Nick, if it only catches in one place then it is more likely the disc, take the disc off and check that the mounting surface is clean and free from grit (if the disc does not seat perfectly flat on the hub then it will run out at one point). If the disc is perfectly flat to the hub and it still runs out at the same point then you probably have a warped disc (is there any vibration when you brake?) If the disc is tight all the way round then the caliper is sticking on, replace the caliper. If the problem persists then you may have a breakdown in the flexible hose which causes a one-way valve effect (rare but does happen). Am I right in thinking that the vauxhall astra is the same as the vectra rear disc setup ,with small handbrake shoes inside the drum part of the disc, slacken the 10mm nut adjuster ( pull back the gaiter ) at the handbrake all the way off and check again for run out (as the handbrake adjuster may have been overtightened causing it to grab). let me know how it goes - Paul
