UK Car Repair: rover 216si coolant, leaking radiator, temp gauge

Question
im looking at buying a p reg rover 216si but on the ad it says that the coolant disappears after a day or two... any ideas what this could mean please

Answer
Hi Kellie, there could be many causes of this from a simple leak to a blown headgasket. Testdrive the car for at least 30 minutes and watch the temp gauge for overheating if it gets too hot WALK AWAY. It is usually cause by a leaking radiator as I personally have replaced many of these on this particular car (they are know for poor quality). You may want to add some stop leak or other leak repair  which is usually around £2-£4 and can be quite effective. Honestly ,if there are other cars in your price rang I would look around as the Rover in general is problematic at best. Hope this helps you and good luck with your car buying. - Paul
