UK Car Repair: Rover 75 Diesel Estate 2001, gauge reading, diesel estate

Question
The car is difficult to start when the fuel drops to about 1/4 tank. I have heard that there was a fault on earlier models and that a new ful pump is required. Do you know if this is correct?

Answer
I do not have access to this info BUT; You say difficult to start, but does it start?  First, is the gauge reading correctly?  Have you worked out the fuel consumption, and is it what it should be?  To check the full position, next time you fill up, keep the ignition on and watch the gauge as it fills to see if the needle and tank level match. Otherwise it would seem there is a leak in the pick up tube which should be at the lowest point of the tank. The tube is part of the pump assy, before buying a new pump I would remove yours and see if in fact the tube is too  short or damaged.  If it is you can likely repair/lengthen it.
