Question
QUESTION: Hi ,
Thank you for your dedication
may be you can help.
I just bought   a certified 2004 Xtype.
the fan of the ambient air sensor run ( one can hear it buzzing !) well after the key is out and the car is closed.
I waited  for more than 10 minutes after I go out of the car.
it seems not to stop.
is it normal?
the  mecanic first replaced the fan and now (the noise is still there ) he says the buzz is  normal.
I am afraid that if I leave the car for one month when I leave for europe it will drain the battery.
My friend has a 2002 and a 2007 x type and they dont make this buzz.
Thank for your answer
Charles.

ANSWER: Some Q's;  When does it go off? Do you have automatic or manual air?  But, regardless, the only fans I know of are the rad cooler motors and the aspirator fan in the AC system. The only fans which should stay on when the vehicle is switched off are the Rad fans, and only when the engine is really hot! Are you sure this is not whats happening? Furthermore, why would anyone replace the fan, it was working wasn't it? surely the job should have been to find out WHY.

QUESTION: thank for your answer.
It is not the engine cooling fan.
It is a minute fan on the dash board that does not stop.
It is an ambient air sensor fan that apparently sends information about the car temp to the AC .
Thank you for your reply.
Charles

ANSWER: It is the aspirator fan which keeps air moving over the sensor. IT SHOULD ONLY OPERATE WHEN THE AC IS ON. It is activated by the HVAC control module.

QUESTION: Thank you again.
I have to bring my car today to the garage.
What if the jaguar mecanic tells me again that it is normal that the fan should not stop?
He is the authorised jaguar dealer here.
On what ground can I tell him that he might be wrong?
Thanks.
Gabi

Answer
Each area has a "factory" tech advisor whose job is to deal with such problems. But first you need to talk to the service manager and ask him to help resolve the issue. Jaguar cars also have a toll free No, for such times, the details should be in the handbook. Your final resort would be to go to sales and tell them, that unless the problem is fixed you want them to take the car back.
