UK Car Repair: rover 216 starting problemw, rover 216, dash lights

Hi William ,I have a 1993 Rover 216SLI which drives fine and starts up most of the time.Every now and then when you start it it turns over and then stalls out after a few seconds !.If you wait and try a few times it will start and run normally.Any ideas?

Does it occur hot or cold? My guess is a fuel problem.  Exactly what is hard to say. You could try charging the fuel system by turning the key to the start position 2 or 3 times (have the car in gear or do not use the clutch ,so that the starter will not engage).  All the dash lights should illuminate and the fuel pump should operate.  let me know the result.
