UK Car Repair: Astra G auxiliary fan, error light, temperature switch

Hello,

Is this fan (the one just before the bumper, attached to aircon condenser) a two speed one? And if yes what possible reasons could make it unable to run at high (second) speed? Now this fan stops occasionally when traffic jammed (when it wants to go second speed I guess) while compressor keeps running, then an error light appears on driver's panel.

I do not have your model specific information BUT, It could be two speed. If so, it is operated buy a bi- position temperature switch near the thermostat housing, It appears though, as if the switch is operating as it is cutting off the 1st speed, that being the case I suspect an open circuit in the switch or between the switch and the module it feeds.  Also check the fuses/relays, there may be separate ones for each circuit.
