UK Car Repair: Car looses water, water leaks, expansion tank

Question
Hi...

My car is a Vectra 2.2 Dti Caravan, Year 2002.
Two months ago started to consume water, but apparently it had no leaks, no loss of power, no heating, nothing... normal behaviour besides water consumption.

My mechanic made a repair, in witch he changed the Head Motor Join (the rubber that is in the middle of the Motor Head and the Motor Block) because he thought it was from there.

I still have the same problem and yesterday I've changed the expansion tank for a new one, together with a new Lid (or Cap)...Let's wait...

Since the problem is not completed identified or solutioned, has everyone had this problem ?? if so, what is the solution ?

Thanks in advanced, and sorry about my english...

Best Regards,

Eduardo.

Answer
Water leaks are either external or internal. Regardless, there is usually some sign from them.  The hardest ones to find are very small leaks which only exit as steam then evaporate without leaving a liquid trail.  They do though leave a whitish trace at the point of exit. Asthese leaks only occur when the engine is very hot, that is the time to look for them, a dark garage with a flashlight is thebest way. I'm sure you have checked the oil for traces, so the next thing is to remove the spark plugs and check them, small leaks will leave a brownish colour and large leaks will leave a clean/whiteish trace.
