Question
QUESTION: Hi

I have recently changed the head gasket on my rover 100 1.4 gsi and on putting it all back together it will not start,  the engine turns over but there is no spark.

can you kindly give me any clues as to where i have gone wrong

many thanks in advance

Lee

ANSWER: If your sure there is no spark then something must be disconnected,  You have to go over all connections and earth points including the crankshaft sensor and check they are secure.

QUESTION: Thankyou very much for your quick reply,
I have a spark to my distributor cap,and have just replaced the cap and rotor arm, upon turning the car over,i have had 2 back fires and a small cough but no more, is it still likely to be a connection.

thank you once again in advance

Answer
No, now it seems that you have a timing problem, you need to see if the valve timing is correct and then the ignition. You could do the ignition first get No 1 cyl on TDC compression ( both valves fully closed) and see if the rotor is pointing at no 1 plug wire, then of course make sure you have the wires on the distributor cap in the correct order!
