UK Car Repair: fiat punto with speedo trouble, electronic speedo, fiat dealer

hi, i've got a 1.2 i punto. a short time after i started first driving it the speedo became erratic and would only occasionally settle on a speed and sometimes wouldn't work at all, soon after it stopped completely, i figured as it used to occasionally be faulty it may have been a loose wire or something similar but after looking behind the clocks i couldn't see any problems.

What year is it? most likely it is an electronic speedo, and the usual cause is a faulty transducer, thats the small generator which picks up the speed signal.  Usually it is located on or near the transmission ouput.  To find out call the fiat dealer and ask if they have one, they might even send you a picture so you can see where it is!
