UK Car Repair: rear wiper, small jump, inop

Question
QUESTION: i have a k reg astra and my rear wiper is not working my fuse and relay is ok and my stalk.but no power to wiper moter i checked for a brake in the wire by the boot but its fine any advice u can give me

ANSWER: When you say the relay is OK how did you check it?  As you probably know a relay has two circuits, One has the battery feed to the wiper which goes through a -normally open- set of points. The other is a feed to the solenoid which, when earthed- by the switch- operates the solenoid closing the points and allowing a feed to go to the wiper. Is this how it's working?

QUESTION: well i know its not the fuse cus its not blown i tested the relay using a multimeter testing resistance and repalced it anyway if i was wrong this happend on my other astra rear wiper inop is there a common fault on this

Answer
The relay may be good, the test I described with a simple text light actually confirms that the circuits are working properly. Check as I suggested, one feed should be there always- the batt supply to the relay, the second feed should only be there when the ignition is on. The wiper  operates by earthing the relay solenoid circuit. If you take a small jump cable and by pass the main contacts the wiper should operate. This can be done across terminals 30 and 87.
