UK Car Repair: Citreon berlingo diesel query, thrust washers, clutch pedal

Question
Hi.
Im not sure if anyone can help here, but my diesel berlingo keeps cutting out, mainly when cold,it doesnt stall,it just die's on me when i put the clutch in.
Its quite rough when its cold too, lunging forward and jerking.
Any idea's anyone?
Its an 01 model with 140000 on the clock.

Answer
The normal reason for cutting out on depressing the clutch pedal is worn crankshaft thrust washers.  You are actually pushing the crank forward, this misaligns the con rods and puts a load on the engine making it harder to turn. If this is the case, there is no easy answer except turning the idle speed up a little higher.  Thats a lot of miles for an 01, the engine has probably passed its useful life span.
