UK Car Repair: 1979 MGB, thumb button, switch assembly

Question
The drivers side door is almost impossible to open.  There seems to be resistance when depressing the thumb button. The passenger side opens with ease.  What can I do to solve this?
Also, at various times, the headlights will come on without having turned them on.  Do I need a new headlight switch assembly or a turn indicator switch assembly?  I ask this because if I dim the lights they will go off.

Answer
The door is most likely a lubrication issue. The first thing to do is spray WD40 or some such lubricant into the lock push, with the window down you can also spray into the lock assy inside the door. Otherwise the door panel has to come off, if this does it, consider pulling the other side also. As for the headlights, the problem would appear to be in the column flasher/dim switch.
