Question
The compressor on my A/C doe not alway click in. I have had the unit gassed and checked for leaks. Also check of any loose leads

Answer
There are three switches which control the compressor, they are usually in the piping close to the dryer.  One senses low pressure, the other, high pressure. These can be tested by simply bypassing them, (join the switch contacts with a wire connector). Try this and see if it solves the problem. The other switch is part of the control console and likely means the whole console has to be replaced.
