UK Car Repair: timing belt, opel omega, automatic car

Question
I have a 1998 opel omega 2.5 automatic car. The car has low milage 25000 miles. I have not had any problems at all with this car untill. It cut out on me and would not restart. It was taken to a garage were I was told the timing belt needed changing. The belt was changed, but now the car is making a noise. When I turn on the engine there is a noise some times loud some time not so loud. While I am driving the noise gets less, but have noticed the more I put  my foot on the accelerator the noise get to a faster rythem. The only way to explain the noise is imagine the pistons going up and doww. Please help.

Answer
Take it back to the garage that did the work and have them fix the problem. It is a direct result of an inpropery adjusted timing system or damage sustained to the valvetrain when it originally died from the timing belt failure. I would usually go into depth as far as timing goes but i am somewhat crippled for the time being as far as typing goes. Simple answer, it's not a good sign, get it back to the garage and tell them you want it fixed and you want to know why it wasn't fixed the first time.
