UK Car Repair: Vauxhall astra 1.7TD W reg 2000, vauxhall astra, security sticker

Question
Thanks John hope this narrows things down a little, when trying to start, ignition behaves as if nothing wrong no dimming of lights all normal, Towed van started ok, turned off engine started on starter motor ok, Locked van on door key Back to square 1, Towed van started ok,Removed fuse,s from central locking and immobiliser, Had to tow van to start,It will now start on ignition, process of elimination is that immobiliser is probably at fault Is it possible to reset immobiliser? or will new system be required?   Many Thanks  Bob

Answer
I am unsure as to whether or not the immobilizer can be reset. I believe that you may need to have it checked to verify the key "which is coded" is properly triggering the immobilizer. This could be as simple as your ignition key not giving the car the proper signal and causing the no start issue. Another possibility is the relays associated with the immobilizer. By returning the fuse to its place, then locating the relays, you can put a finger on the relays to determine if they are clicking when the key is turned on. This could also be a clutch safety switch. A few test leads and a test light can remedy that mystery by jumping the test leads and seeing if the vehicle will start with the immobilizer engaged. If none of these works and the immobilizer is determined to be at fault, I would get a large security sticker for the window, and pull the fuse. But that’s just me; if you must have one... you will need to have a dealership replace it assuming it is the factory installed unit.

Good luck with it and let me know how it turns out.
