Volkswagen Repair: undershield for 2005 vw passat, vw passat, minor fender

Do I need my undershield for my 2005 vw passat. Both sides have come down and its $200 for the shield plus labor. Other cars don't even have and undershield. Help

 It's not absolutely vital, but it helps in extreme conditions for cooling and keeping debris away from the engine compartment.  Often they start coming down when the front gets bumped, like in a minor fender bender accident.  If it is just hanging down you may be able to fix it with some creative use of hardware store fasteners and a drill.  I fixed my mini van's recently, and it turned out great, better and stronger than the original attachments.
