Volkswagen Repair: VW 1992 gli, digifant ii, error codes

Question
I have im pretty sure a 91 or a 92 gli. i just got it and when i did the whole
interior was ripped out. ive put it all back together but there is one 3 wires
that are coming out from the center onto the left passenger floor and idk
where they go to. also the guy i got it from said it ran when they parked it
and everything is there but im not sure if the computer is in the car, where
would the computer be located and would this cause the car to not even try
to start. i turn the key and the lights turn on and the radio and its a new
battery but if i try to start it nothing happens. any advice?

Answer
Matt,
The wires under around the seat may be for the seat belt switch.  The computer should be a Digifant II and located under the dash.  Yes, the computer is vital to the running of all modern (post-86) ECU equipped cars.  You should have the car OBD scanned; this should tell if the computer is working and what, if any, error codes are currently affecting the starting.
