Volkswagen Repair: Volkswagen Engine Size, volkswagen beetle, volkswagen engine

I have purchased a 1975 Volkswagen Beetle which was the first year for a fuel injection. The motor in the car is not fuel injected and must be from a previous year. How can I find out exactly what the motor size is and year to be able to order parts for the motor?

Mike, I haven't worked on many Beetles, but I believe that the engine serial number is on the bottom of the block.
There is a flat spot in the centre,on the cooling fins, it should be stamped there.
I'll confirm with a friend, and get back to you with any other markings.
