Volkswagen Repair: 2000 Jetta - Battery not receiving Charge, memory circuits, charge battery

Question
Battery is not receiving a charge.  I can run car off the battery, I know this is not good.  I have put in a new alternator and battery even though both checked as good.  After doing this it ran for about a week then would not start.  It will run if jump started but will not restart once you turn it off, even if you drive it for awhile.  When you check the battery it is nearly dead.  I also have a problem with the  interior heater lights only come on once in a while if you play with the switches of the heater.  Please help we are at our wits end!  Thank you in advance for any help!

Answer
Dianna,
I believe there is something drawing excessive current after the ignition is turned off.  I would conduct a test, with the everything off, take off the positive battery cable and put an AMMETER inline with it (a multimeter on the AMPS function is fine.)  Observe how much draw there is; normally there should be very little, milliamps, for the ECU and radio memory circuits only.  Otherwise, if you find there is excessive draw, start pulling fuses under you find the offending circuit.
