Tires: Recommended tire pressure, dual axle trailer, recommended tire pressure

Question
I've inherited a boat and trailer from my father.  The dual axle trailer has Carlisle ST225/75R15 radial trailer tires, load rating D.  The tires appear in good condition, and I believe they indicate a maximum 12,500 load at 65 psi.  The boat and trailer weigh close to 6500 pounds.  What is the recommended tire inflation pressure for this load?

Thanks in advance

Answer
Tom,

Since ride is not a consideration for a trailer, I'd recommend you use the maximum pressure as listed on the sidewall - 65 psi.  The less of the load carrying capacity you use the less risk there is from load related tire failures.  With trailers that is the most common occurrence.

BTW I think you'll find that with 4 tires on the ground the tires only have a load carrying capacity of 10,160 # at 65 psi, so the tires are using 65% of their capacity.
