Volkswagen Repair: 99 Golf Radio Problems, golf radio, radio problems

I recently had work done to my car and they had to unhook the battery, now my radio is in SAFE mode.  I have the code, but when I put it in nothing happens, what else do I have to do to get it working?

I hate to say this, but the radio is toast!  Do you have a CD changer in the trunk.  If you do, unplug it.  Wait to enter the code with the radio on for about an hour, you don't have to have the ignition on, just the radio.  If it still says safe the radio has to be replaced.  This happens a lot to Beetles especially.
