Volkswagen Repair: radio code input, volkswagen dealer, radio code

Question
QUESTION: Hi! I recently bought a 99 Jetta VR6 (older model,95-99). It has a stock Bose radio on SAFE mode. I have the radio code but I don't know how to input it. I heard that I have to hold down scan and mode at the same time, but that hasn't worked. Do you have any suggestions?

ANSWER: Hey Jimmy;
You must have the correct code, first of all, but the 2 buttons you hold down are tune, and scan, at the same time.  Hope this works.  Good luck, Jimmy, thanks for the question.

QUESTION: I tried this already and it wont work. Someone told me that the reason mine is in SAFE mode is because I punched in the wrong code 3 or more times. So at this point holdind down SCAN and TUNE is not working. Any ideas on how to get the screen to say 1000?
ANSWER: There is a time period that has to be waited through before the radio will let you input again.  I want to say it is at least an hour before the radio will say 1000 again.  Once again though the radio code has to be correct, and I'm almost completely positive it's scan, and tune....is there a separate button for "seek?"  It might be scan, and seek.  I'm sorry, the procedure has changed several times over the last 8 years, and so have the radios.  If there is a separate button for seek, try scan, and seek, after the time limit has elapsed.  If you still can't get it, call the local Volkswagen dealer, and give them the serial number of the radio, and the serial number of the car....ie., VIN, and serial number of the radio, they can look up the radio code for you on-line, and you can make sure you've got the right one.  Of course it's the weekend right now, but there are many dealers that are open limited hours on Saturday's.  Hope this works, man.  Sorry for the wrong way first.  We can get it though!

QUESTION: Thanx for the help. One more thing, do I have to wait an hour with the ignition on?

Answer
I don't remember for sure, I think you just have to have the radio on, but it might be the ignition too.  Do you have a small like 2 amp battery charger, like trickle charger?  Even a jumper battery to attach to the terminals might be enough to keep the car battery energized so you can start it when you get the radio to go to 1000.  Once again, it's like some cars can be just the radio, and other cars can be the ignition too.  On an A3, GTI, or Jetta, I just can't remember 100% of the stuff they all need.  Sorry.
