Volkswagen Repair: Firing Order for 2000 Jetta GL, combustion cycle, piston cylinder

Question
The check engine light just came on and I noticed some sputtering. The code that the diagnostic check gave was p0304 (misfre on cylinder 4). What is the Firing order so I can check to see if the coil is bad or the wiring?

Answer
Hi Corey;  Sorry it took so long to get back to you.  My computer broke, so I had to find another one to use.  The firing order isn't so important anymore, but the location of the cylinders is.  So, here goes...the number one piston/cylinder is the one on the right of the car...the one on the right means if you are sitting inside at the steering wheel.  So, when you are looking at the engine, with the hood up, the one on YOUR left is the number one, then 2, is next, and so on.  The number 4 misfire could be just a fouled spark plug, and that would be my initial guess if this something that happened suddenly.  A little chunk of carbon could have blown up off the surface of the piston during a combustion cycle, and gotten lodged in the electrode of the plug, and that's what made it quit working.  Hence the code, and the MIL.  Hope this helps, man, I'm really sorry about the delay.  Have fun out there, Corey.
