Volkswagen Repair: 96 jetta starting problems when raining, mk3 jetta, oxnard st

hello, my car runs and drives fine when dry, but when its raining i have a hard time starting it.  it will just keep turning over for about 3-5 minutes.  sometime this doesn't happen and sometime it will start and then stall out a mile or so down the road. when it stalls out it takes about a half an hour or so to restart it then it sputters like crazy for approximately 5-10 more minutes.  but when its dry out no problems at all.  its a 1996 jetta 5 speed 81000 miles. any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks

When your car is completely dry run a hose over it and try to see where the water is getting in. Most likely the front windshield or the sunroof. Probally getting into the fusebox area and shorting out a relay. Otherwise check the ignition distributor, but this is a long shot.
