Volkswagen Repair: ignition problem 89 wolfsburg jetta 1.8v, wolfsburg jetta, jumper cables

Question
I just changed the timing belt and took out a sterio amp on the jetta and it ran..The battery kept dying so i tried to jump it and accidently crossed the cables and fried the jumper cables..When i try to turn on the car by key it just makes a dinging noise comming from the fuse/relay box...When i try to arc it from the starter it wants to turn over but it doesn't..I think that might just be timing but i don't know why it won't crank with the key..It's not the relay..I'm having a problem from the key to the relay box to the starter..Please help..

Answer
Sounds like you smoked your battery. Go buy a NEW battery and install it. Then check all your fuses. You can do alot of damage when you short out the battery. Your lucky it isn't a newer car. Doing what you did on a new car could destroy the ECUs and other complicated electrical systems. I am Max's German Car located at 15020 Oxnard st Van Nuys CA 91411.
