Volkswagen Repair: 1987 VW GTI fuel injector problem, air flow meter, salvage yard

Question
I just bought a non running 87 GTI (4cy/8vlv engine)that has been sitting for three years. I replaced the plugs and wires then found the fuel pump did not work and the box had a crack in it. I replaced the fuel pump and box and now can get the car started and will run through the cold start injector but the fuel distributor never opens the 4 fuel lines to the injectors. I cleaned the distributor to no avail and finally got a replacement from a salvage yard but no luck. Any ideas?

Answer
Are you getting fuel to the fuel distributor? If so, then either the plunger in the fuel distributor is frozen or the injectors or lines are clogged. If the fuel distributor sits for any length of time without gas in it, the metal plunger inside will freeze up. Probally the one you got from the junk yard was frozen as well. Take the fuel distributor off the air flow meter and try to unfreeze the plunger in the middle on the bottom of the fuel distributor.
