Audio Systems: Proper Speakers for presentation, powered speakers, foot ceilings

Question
QUESTION: I have a projector that I use for presentations I do for a class at my church. I need to find some speakers that I can attach to the projector. It is an old projector and only outputs Mono sound. Sound quality isn't very important as the content is just listening to a talk. I need some speakers which can boost the sound a little more than the volume that the projector outputs. The output can come out with either RCA or with the 1/4" plug. The presentation is normally in ~ 15' x 20' room with 20-30 people. I would like to spend less than $100 if possible. I know nothing about speakers and am looking for some advice. I would like something simple that I can travel with. (not too many components) Thanks.

ANSWER: You need powered speakers. You can either find them on line or go into your local computer shop. They start in price from about $20 and go up. You can easily use the powered speakers for a computer.

QUESTION: Is there any particular Watt or other specs which I should be looking for to meet my room and audience needs? I see different specs from 60 -120 total system watts and didn't know what my minimum should be from my needs? I don't want to purchase something and then find out it won't be loud enough.

ANSWER: How often are you planning to use it?
How portable does it have to be?
How big is the room?
How many people are generally in the room?
How reverberant is the room? (echo)
How high is the ceiling?

You can do a search for powered speakers. You should not pay more than the above. Since it's only being used for speech they do not have to be very large. There are a number of powered speakers made by companies like Gemini, JBL, EV, etc that are designed to be mounted to ultimate support stands so the can be raised to ear level of the listeners.
