Volkswagen Repair: 2001 passat trunk trim, new passat, body guys

Hi,
I have a 2001 (new) passat with a small dent in the trunk lid (facing rear).  I thought i could tap it out reasonably well from the inside except there is a fabric liner/soundproofing? on the inside of the rear section of the trunk lid.  Can you tell me how to remove it, or if you think its a bad idea to even attempt this repair?

There is just some plastic clips that hold on this cover. Sometimes you have to punch out a center pin to remove this clip. Yes go ahead and fix it. Be careful how you hammer out the metal. Remember, the best body guys only use a little bondo. They get the metal as close to original as possible then apply the bondo.
