Volkswagen Repair: puss rods length, copper head, aluminum rod

Question
how can i get the right length for the rods is there any way that i can do it my self, i got the adjustable pusrod made out of an old aluminum rod. I read some of the steps on a magazine but for what can tell either i did something wrong or i didn't read it right, can you help with any other info on how to do it maybe is missing something. also my engine has a .060" cylender shim and a .040" copper head shim. let my know if there is an book or anyother article on how to do it.!!!!

Answer
Max, thank you for your question.  The book you need to get is called “How to Hot Rod your VW”.  To get away from the guesswork of cutting push rods, it would be best to get the adjustable push rods instead.  Remember if you put too much lift, your valves will hit the piston and be concerned that the stock valve train is only rated for 5,000 RPM.  After that the valves will float and hit the pistons.
Hope that helps
