Volkswagen Repair: 99 new jetta brake light lens/casing, volkswagen jetta, vw jetta

Question
I have a 99 newer model VW Jetta (the IV?) and the brake light lens/casing had gotten a crack in it so I took it to a shop to have it repaired.  Problem is, I think they put the wrong casing in bc there are gaps and the coloring is different.  The mechanic who did it maintains that all the lenses are the same and I don't know what I'm talking about but it is obviously a different color and the wrong fit.  So my question is for that particular style of Jetta, are the brake light lenses slightly different for different years as far as color and size?  Also, if I were to get one online how can it be replaced?  And also my hubcap is chipped, is that easily replaced if I were to buy a new one as well?  (I will probably have someone who knows a bit more about cars do all this labor for me being that I obviously know nothing.)

Answer
Miranda, thank you for your question.  Taillight lenses are usually different on each version (slight differences) of 99 jetta.  That is one reason that the only place to really get the taillight lenses is from a VW Dealer (unfortunately). There are aftermarket lenses available but you have to know the exact model, i.e. Jetta GLS IV with 4cyl 1761.  the hub caps can be gotten online from several sources. One is http://oem.thepartsbin.com/parts/thepartsbin/models.jsp?year=1999&make=VW&imageF... or http://www.innerauto.com/catalog/Hubcaps/1999_volkswagen_jetta.html
Here is one of taillights: http://www.innerauto.com/catalog/Lights_(Rear)/1999_volkswagen_jetta.html
I have never dealt with any of the above companies.  But these sites will give you an idea of what you are up against.
Hope that helps
