Volkswagen Repair: VW Jetta Wagon - shift to reverse gear, jetta wagon, vw jetta

This problem just started. I start my VW Jetta Wagon. With my foot on the break try to shift the gear to reverse. The shift does not want to move. What could be the problem? How do I fix this?

Pani, thank you for your question.  The problem could be with the linkage to the transmission.  There is a secondary linkage that is engaged when you push on the brake and on the button on the gearshift.  In any case, it is something that a transmission shop is equipped for.  There also could be a problem with the linage from the brake.  It is best when parking (even on flat ground) shift to neutral then to set the parking brake and then shift to park.  This helps save the lightweight clip that is used in the transmission to park the transmission.
