Volkswagen Repair: need help in brooklyn, jetta 2, distributor caps

Question
here is my problem. i have a 1999.5 vw jetta 2.0.when i start my car and go to drive,i give it gas and it seems like the car wants to shut off. the rpm drop almost down to zero (like it is choking) after the car warms up it seems like it is running better but not even good. i have changed the spark plugs and wires and coil, also the air filter (k&n drop in filter). it ran ok for a little while but then it went back to running bad.sometimes when i'm at a stop sign and give it gas (push the pedal half way down) the car will make one loud plink noise, then i release the gas. i had the car checked on a obd 2 meter and it said i have cyl 3 and cyl 4 misfireing .also if you dont mind i have one more question.can you tell me what the correct spark plug set up is,my wires say a.b.c.d. but i dont know if they are put in right .can you tell me fom left to right the way they should go (ex: a,b,c,d, a.c,b,d, )thank you so much for you help it is hard to find the right answers from even the v.w. dealer in my neighborhood

p.s. have a great day and i wont be mad if you cant help me (bull crap i will believe that my problems will never be fixed and i will have to go to the dealer and give him $1,000,000.00 and my first born child to fix my $7,189.53 car )oh and again have a great day

Answer
Anthony, Thank you for your question.  The firing order is 1-3-4-2 on all 1.8 to 2.0L 4 cyl engines.  From what you are describing it really sounds like the firing order and the timing is out of whack. When you see 1-3-4-2 that is the direction in which the distributor turns, usually clockwise or to the right. You would locate on the distributor cap (IF so equipped), either a “1” or a mark of some kind.  I have seen all kinds of marks on distributor caps.  normally, the #1 cyl is at the front or on the left side of the engine and marked as such on the head or valve cover.  I have also seen repairs shops get the firing order wrong (I have done it, a couple of times to an 86 fury).
Hope that helps
