Volkswagen Repair: HIgh Revving type 3, forward transmission, return spring

Question
Hi Don:
I have a type 3 running dual 32PDSIT.  Starts easy idles good.  Without explanation (usually after giving it a little gas) the engine idles very high, to the point you need to immediately shut it down.    Problem happens warm or cold.    Felt like a throttle cable was getting hung up.  Checked cable and linkage, it's not that.  I think it's a fuel delivery issue, but don't know where to start.  None of my books address this problem.

Answer
Kurt, Thank you for your question.  A couple of things to check for.  First, check the forward transmission mount and the mount at the back of the engine, the left and right transmission mounts.  These mounts if damaged can cause the problem you are describing.  Also, check the accelerator linkage on the carbs themselves.  The linkage might be going back too far and locking in to place.  Also check the return spring to see if it has enough tension.
Hope that helps
