Auto body repair & detailing: corrosion starting on doors, geo prizm, rubber gaskets

Question
I allowed my 4-door '97 red Geo Prizm to sit around a lot for a couple years here in Michigan while I mostly drove my smaller, better-mileage '88 Toyota. Since selling the Toyota, I've noticed some corrosion on the inside of the Geo's doors--especially along the front & bottom of the front doors--where the door surface meets the rubber gasket. (Apparently a thin coating of ROAD SALT, over a long period of time, gradually corroded the curved metal surfaces AND stained the rubber gaskets.)
Question #1: Is there any way to remove the stain from the rubber gaskets? (Rubbing on paint thinner didn't work. When I sell the car someday, the stained gaskets would look bad.)
Question #2: After I go to the car wash & dry off all the slightly corroded surfaces, is there some kind of wax or sealant I can smear on (to inhibit further corrosion) until Spring comes & I can  try to repair it?

Answer
Dave,
I would try using a maroon scuff pad and something like Spray 9 on the rubbers. Lacquer thinner might work but you'll need to be careful not to get any on your seats or paint. I don't really know of anything to put on that rust other than bearing grease or paint it with POR-15 (needs to be topcoated while still tacky). Good luck with that!
