Volkswagen Repair: Golf III and Fox GL, fuel distributor, transmission shop

Question
First of all Thank you in advance!

Golf III automatic 1994:
Shifts it self to neutral, and then when you put to drive back light turns on?  Drivers driving behind me can see it!  It seems that the car stays in 3rd gear only.  Only some time shifts from 1st to all the way to 4th probably.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Fox manual shift  1990:  Runs good, but dies out, but if I switch of and on, runs again for a while again dies.
When car runs idle i can hear the noise comming from fuel pump area goooooooooooooooooooon before it dies, but once i start it starts again.  but again dies.

Pleased help!
Sincerely
Moic

Answer
Moic, thank you for your question.  On your automatic: several things could be the problem.  The bands in the transmission are loose.  Another may be the linkage inside the transmission itself.  The best thing to do is take it to a good transmission shop and have them dig into it.  The cost can be from around $350 to as bad as $2500 (depending upon the amount of damage and if there are any electronics involved.).
On your Fox: this can be a fuel distributor to the injectors.  Or you may have a clogged fuel line or a clog in the tank itself. Also may have a fuel pump that is ready to fail.
Hope this helps
