Volkswagen Repair: 2000 Passat alarm system, loud stereo, windy conditions

2000 Passat alarm goes off randomly when the car is parked and locked. Problem has been traced to trunk other than disconnecting trunk from the alarm system is there any other way to resolve this problem?

Sue, Thank you for your question.  The problem sounds like the sensor in the trunk is dead or failing.  Another part of this may be the sensitivity is set too high.  If your alarm is going off during windy conditions (over 5 mph) or thunderstorms (also someone with a loud stereo) then the problem is the sensitivity.  If this is not the situation then it is a very good possibility that the sensor is failing.
