Volkswagen Repair: Strutt, checker auto parts, advance auto parts

Question
When I turn my wheel while driving,the bearings make a rocking/knocking noise. This has been going on for a while now and Ihave been told I need to change the strutt. This bothers me because I don't want my wheel to fall off while driving and that noise isdriving me crazy.
Can you  tell me if my 1993 Eurovan uses a strutt and where in Oakland Callifornia I can get this item? Does Advance Auto Parts company carry what I need and how much is it?
