Volkswagen Repair: VW engine, crankshaft pulley, fly wheel

Question
'74 Superbeatle.  Have removed engine.  Having problems getting the nut loose on internal fly wheel. Have 36mm nut, it turns, have the rear fly wheel nut off, but can't get the front off.  Which way does it turn, clock or counter clock?

Answer
Hans, Thank you for your question. The crankshaft pulley (30mm) is "lefty loosy" "Righty, Tighty",  Basically, both the 36mm gland nut and the crankshaft pulley are removed in the same direction.  If you are having problems with getting it off you may need what are called Flywheel locks , if you do not already have them.  also the best thing to do is to remove the crankshaft pulley off first, them the flywheel gland nut.
hope the helps
