Volkswagen Repair: 72 Superbeetle Trani., metric seals, superbeetle

Hope you can help me.  I'm rebuilding our '72 conv. and can't figure out what the extra sensor on the trani is.  It is located on the passenger side of the nose cone facing the front of the vehicle.  It has two terminal and the part that goes into the trani case operates just like the back up switch does which is on the other side of the nose cone.  I can't find it in any manuals or on any wiring diagrams.

If this is a 4 speed and the backup lights work I wouldn't worry about that switch. Were wires on it when you pulled the trans out of the car? It sounds like the backup light switch to me...that's usually where it's located. I have alot of new W. Coast Metric seals for that car if you need a good deal on some. Other convt. parts too, both new and used for anything on that car. Let me know! Thanks!
