Volkswagen Repair: Do it yourself battery replacement, better luck next time, vw passat

Question
2001 (new model) VW Passat Wagon - V6

I just had to pay $220 dollars to have a battery replaced in my passat because the delear said they have to reset the computer and calibrate stuff. This is ABSURD!

I want instructions on how to replace the battery myself.  I read in another forum that you can put a 9V batter in the cigarette lighter to keep the computer powered while the battery is being changed.  What are my options?

Answer
Kevin,

You don't need to do that, but it will keep your presents and clock memory, and alarm working, good idea.  I personally just change the battery and reset the clock and radio.

If they tell you anything in the future, note if they can look you in the eye while they say it.

Better luck next time,

Paul
