Volkswagen Repair: repair, fuel leaks, diesel fuel

Question
I have a 1987 jetta the motor came out of a 1987, (was gas). volkswagon desiel pickup the seal to the fuel injecter pump is leaking. I need to know what that seal is called. & would the fuel pump cause it, if they didn't change it to desiel from gas. both vechicals set for 5 years

Answer
Cynthia,

Whenever a diesel fuel pump sits dormant for more than six months, you risk fuel leaks, because the seals dry out.  You'll need to send you car to a fuel injection shop, because the pump will need to be tested, rebuilt and set up after the seals are replaced.  Your only other option is to find a fuel pump from a vehicle that has recently been pulled off the road and still runs.

Good luck,

Paul
