Volkswagen Repair: cooling problem, jetta 1, waterpumps

I have a 1992 jetta 1.6 tdi .coolant is not circulating through the rad or engine ,the belts are turning the pump ok . also where is the thermostat so i can check it ? and do i have to take the motor mount off to check the pump ? thank you hans

'92 Jetta TDI?  We didn't get them in Canada until '97.
Our first TDI's had external waterpumps and can be serviced without removing the engine mount. It's located on the bottom left side of the engine, and the thermostat is inside the bottom rad hose flange, above the  powersteering pump.
