I have a 99 jetta, I just had the power steering fixed, and there was red fluid all over my battery and the bolts wouldn't come undone, so I scrubbed at it with an old toothbrush and it came off. Now, I can't pull the battery out. I know it's about 30 pounds, but I'm pretty strong, and this thing won't budge.  Could the liquid be underneath it and causing suction? Or is there another reason I can't get my battery out?
Answer -
Melanie,

Did you take out the bolt at the bottom with a 13mm socket?
It is hidden under the black cover.

It secures the battery from moving.  Take the bolt and bracket out and slide the battery slightly to the left to unhook it.

Good Luck,

Paul

Answer
Melanie,

Good for you!

I've got three daughters myself, and they know the value of opening the hood, and learning more about cars.  Everytime you tackle a job, you understand and apprieciate how cars funtion.
Plus there's nothing better than washing the grease and dirt off your hands after a job well done!

Enjoy your car,

Paul
