Volkswagen Repair: can start my car!, jetta gl, auto mechanic

Question
Hi!  Paul, this is a more than what you might think.  An auto mechanic disconected the wire harness from the IDLE AIR STABILIZER VALVE while the car was idling because I had told him that the car idling rough(i.e.rpm self-adjusting up & dowm up & dowm from 500rpm to 1200rpm, when idling, sometimes, after a while like this, the engine stall.) after a minute, the engine die.  Then, the mechanic reconected the wireharness back to the idle air stabilizer valve. I did not realized that this would cause me headaid at that time, I didn't do anything.  8 hours later, after work, I couldn't get the car to start.  Since then I can't get the engine runing again.  I have checked start plug o.k. when I tried to start the engine, there has 'arc' jumping to engine block, but the car can't be started.  Paul, can you help?   My car is 1992 v.w. Jetta GL. Fuel injection, AT, 1.8L engine.

Answer
"p",

What the mechanic did is fine, it won't cause your problem.

The arc that you describe is from the ignition wires.  Install new wires and a cap and rotor as well.

Hey, many of these problems are caused when the car needs a tune-up.  If your car hasn't been tuned up in a couple of years, do one. Don't forget to change the fuel filter, plugs, air filter, if they need it, and check your belts.

Good Luck,

Paul
