Volkswagen Repair: Engine will not turn after long trip! (hot), protective sheath, engine starter

Question
I have an Audi 100 1990 with 1.8 engine.
After driving 150 miles, shuting the engine off - will not turn engine. (Starter & sol. are good)
After it sits and cools down the engine will turn over and start

Answer
Is your car and automatic?  On VW's, automatics always have this problem when hot.  The problem is in the wiring that leads to the starter, it overheats and shorts out when the car is hot.  You can rewire the starter and cover it in a protective sheath.  That should fix your problem.

Good Luck,
