Volkswagen Repair: headlight repair 2000 passat, cibie lights, jap cars

How do I replace a driver's side headlight?  The highbeams work, but the regular headlight has burned out.  The manual says to "see the dealer"!

Have a bit of patience with me here as I got cibie lights in mine  so I gotta ask a few dumb questions or make dumb suggestions with out having seen this problem many seem to be having.  Okay in the goodole days, we unscrewed the chrome ring and took it off from the outside. as the screws were evident.  I see that is no longer the case.  If youopen the hood, can you see the back of the headlight or where the wires are going to?  On many jap cars I am finding a plastic ring that half turns off and the bulb comes out.  Is that not the case here.  ???  I need to know.  Thanks.
