Hi,
i got a VW Passat, 1990, 16v, GL, Station Wagen and got your answer about the water pump, thank you, i got another one for you, i replaced the old air filter, there was  a lot of oil in it, i guess it is the crankshaft ventilation and the oil rings on the pistons which must be replaced to, now when i turn the engine on and  the warmer it takes in the car smell of gas. What should i do to fix it?
         P.S.
Do you speak German?

Answer
Not clear on what you said there - of course there is oil in the oil filter(1 L).  Why again must you replace the crank vent and oil rings?  And what are you saying in the last part.  I speak basic german but read none.  If you are trying to say that when you warm up the car you get the smell of gas ---check your fuel lines to the engine and connections---also check your gas cap
