Volvo Repair: Volvo V70 XC = Timing issue, volvo v70 xc, 1999 volvo v70

Question

Hi

I have a 1999 volvo v70 xc with 66000 and a full service history, the problem is I just replaced the timing belt and think I have messed it up, when the engine is started it sounds like a diesel, I have only done this for 2 seconds or more, after I checked the timing and re-adjusted to make sure as it looked out by a notch, and started it again but had the same noise, I then completed a compression check and had 190+ psi on 4 cylinders but 150 on number 2 cylinder. Now this vehicle has VVT on the exhaust valves, my question is is the timing still out and thats why it is noisy or have I bent valves.

Any ideas

Answer
Matt, the vvt is the issue.  There is a specific procedure to do belts on this thing.  Its under spring tension and the mark needs to be on the timing mark when its turned to the stop.  HArd to explain.  Let me know if you understand what Im talking about.  hopefully you didnt damage anything.  Roger
