Volvo Repair: Volvo electric driver seat motor?, 1994 volvo 960, volvo 960

Question
Hi: I have a 1994 Volvo 960 Wagon. The driver's seat
electric motor doesn't move the seat. You can hear the
motor operating (and actually you can get an ?inch of
up/down movement, but not front/back and no substantial
up/down.) I'm guessing since I can hear the motor that it's
not fuses? I don't want to put a lot of money into fixing
this at the Volvo place (the car just isn't worth enough),
BUT is there any way to disconnect the electric to the seat
and MANUALLY position the seat (even if I had to choose one
position that my husband, teen son and I could live with,
it would be better than this WAY too close, WAY too high
position it is in now?) Of course a cheap fix to the motor
would be best! thanks for any thoughts/sugggestions/help.

Answer
Marilynn, If you can help it into the position you want, just disconnect the switch connector or under the seat, you can unplug the motor connector. It probably will not hold though as the gears are either stripped or the rod may have popped out of the gears. You can pull the seat by removing the 4 bolts and electrical connectors, flip it over and inspect the seat transmission for worn or broken parts. They are not too complicated or hard to work on.
