Volvo Repair: 2001 V70 Turbo Transmission Problems, little buggers, model volvo

Question
I bought a used 2001 V70 Turbo Wagon in 2005 with 42,000 miles. Since then I've driven roughly 38,000 miles. For some time now the car seems to drop into neutral and then it feels as if someone has slammed into the rear-end once the gears kick in. This happens when I slow down to make a turn, approach a light or hill and then accelerate again. The dealer has informed me that I need a new transmission $4.500+ I truly find this unacceptable for a car with this few miles especially when the first maintenance check for the transmission is 90K. Is this a familiar pattern with this year and model Volvo?

Answer
Unfortunately yes. They have had a high frequency of failure. It's hit or miss. Some will go 200k + while others crap out at inder 1K. Make sure you get a guarentee that this will fi your problem. Only use a Genuine Volvo remanufactured transmission. These are really tricky little buggers and the aftermarket does not do a very good job. The Volvo one will have all the latest and greatest updates and improvements done to it. Goodluck and I feel your pain.
